Ido Gidron is a performance artist, dancer, choreographer, and a certified Gaga teacher. He was born and raised in the mountains of Jerusalem, at Shoresh. He began his dance training at the The Academy for Music and Dance High School and continued simultaneously at The Batsheva dance company excellence dancers program between the years 2011-2013. When he was 17, Ido participated in the summer intensive of The Juilliard school in New-York, USA. After graduating High School Ido joined the IDF, with an award of privileged outstanding dancer, that allowed him to continue dancing.

Ido was a dancer at the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company 2, during the season 2013-2014, where he was working with Rami Be’er and performed his works. While he was dancing at the Kibbutz, Ido created as well as performed the piece RUN together with Maya Michlal-Gelfand’s ensemble.

After dancing for Rami, in 2014 Ido continued his career and joined Batsheva dance company, the young ensemble for 3 years. During his time in Batsheva, Ido performed pieces by Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal and Danielle Agami.

Ido is a teacher of Gaga, the movement language created by Ohad Naharin, and has taught for The Young Ensemble and the excellence dancers program. In addition to the company classes, Ido is a Gaga/people teacher, and teaching constantly open classes in Tel Aviv and workshops of Ohad Naharin’s rep.

In November 2017, Ido performed as a guest dancer with the Norwegian National Ballet, in the production of Minus 16 by Ohad Naharin. Ido is a guest teacher for the company cie. Toula Limnaios in Berlin, and was teaching 3 workshops in Fabrik Potsdam, both in Germany. He was teaching at the Institut Za Umetničku Igru in Belgrade, Serbia, at PERA- School of Performing Arts - GAU in Kyrenia, Cyprus, and in Absalon, Copenhagen, Denmark.

 

Under the platform of Batsheva Ensemble Dancers Create Ido created 3 pieces, Room No.1, which he created and performed, created in his first year. In his second year Ido in collaboration with his colleague Ya’ara Lapid, created the duet Heroes of the Red Wine, which they also performed together. The last piece Ido created before leaving the company was Dualism, which won 3rd prize at the Machol Shalem Choreography Competition (Jerusalem, December 2017), and performed at Lucky Trimmer dance festival (Berlin, March 2018).

 

Today Ido is working with the choreographer Idan Sharabi, and staging Ohad Naharin’s repertory on many groups around the world.
